The Porsche 911 R is a very rare car that has a special place in Porsche’s history. It was built in 2016, and only 991 cars were made. Porsche made it to honor the 1967 911 R, which was also a special edition.
The 911 R was different from the 911 GT3 RS. While the GT3 RS was made for the track, the 911 R was built for pure driving pleasure on the road. It was lighter, simpler, and came only with a six-speed manual gearbox.
Driving Experience
People who drove the 911 R said it was one of the best driving experiences Porsche ever made. It gave a raw and natural feeling that reminded many of older sports cars. The mix of a powerful flat-six engine with a manual gearbox made it very exciting to drive.
Because of this, the 911 R became one of the most loved Porsche models of its time. Collectors wanted it right away, and demand was far higher than supply. Now, thanks to Bring a Trailer, one of these rare cars is back up for sale.
Chassis #160 On Auction
The car now listed is chassis number 160 out of 991. It is finished in GT Silver Metallic with red racing stripes and black side graphics. To make it lighter, Porsche used special parts like a magnesium roof, carbon-fiber hood, fenders, and deck lid. It also has a retractable spoiler and unique aerodynamic features. A protective film has been added to keep the paint safe.
The car rides on 20-inch GT3 center-lock alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. These tires were installed in March 2025. The car has strong carbon-ceramic brakes with yellow calipers. Like the 911 GT3, it has rear-axle steering and adjustable suspension, but tuned for road use instead of racing.
Inside The Cabin
The cabin is covered in black leather with GT Silver stitching and carbon-fiber accents on the dashboard. It has heated sport seats, Porsche Communication Management with navigation, a Bose sound system, the Light Design Package, and self-dimming mirrors.
The dials are classic and sporty, with a 225-mph speedometer and a tachometer that redlines at 8,600 rpm. The car has only about 3,600 miles on the odometer, making it almost like new.
Engine And Performance
The Porsche 911 R uses the same naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine found in the GT3 RS. It produces 500 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque. The power goes to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential. Porsche Torque Vectoring helps improve handling.
This car also has an extended-range fuel tank. In March 2025, it received full service, including an oil change, new battery, new serpentine belt, and fresh tires.
Current Auction Status
When it was new in 2016, the Porsche 911 R cost over $210,000. Today, the value has increased a lot. The current auction bid has already reached $333,333, and there are still three days left before the auction ends.
Because it is so rare and loved by collectors, the price is expected to go even higher. It is one of the most exciting Porsche auctions happening this week.
